Law on climate change in Poland

Imbalance settlement period in Poland must be shortened from 1 hour to 15 minutes by 18 December 2021.

An imbalance settlement period (ISP) is the time unit for which the imbalance of the balance responsible parties is calculated (Article 2(10) of the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 of 23 November 2017 establishing a guideline on electricity balancing.

The ISP influences on many parameters of the balancing market, in particular balancing energy products, volume calculation, etc.

According to Article 53 of the said Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 by 18 December 2021 all EU Transmission System Operators are required to apply the imbalance settlement period of 15 minutes in all scheduling areas.

This provision influences on the balancing market in Poland where the existing model uses an imbalance settlement period of 1 hour.

Consequently, meters and appliances in Poland will have to be accommodated.
